| Images below are Fire Wire transfer from Standard Definition Video Camera Sony DSR570. No electronic manipulation added. Visual content achieved wiith the use of Motion Picture Light Meter without help of Waveform and/or Video Monitors. Adjustment to Video camera were those in Master Gamma and Detail level. After determination of the ASA equivalent of Video Camera scenes are lit to preconceived F-stop the "Film Way" with the use of Light Meter. Highlights are kept in check the "Old Fashion Way" - Lighting. Our Cinematography Workshops exercise Film Look in video with three primary steps: 1. Camera Calibration - Advanced Menu - Shutter, Gamma, Detail Level 2. ASA Equivalent of Video Camera 3. Lighting with motion picture light meter - application of "Dancing with Light" technique It appears, obtaining the socalled "Film Look" entails getting one's hands, mind and soul immersed in Light. Two detrimental factors to observe are Light Quality and Lighting Style. Seeing in one's mind constitues Film Lighting, and - I believe - first step in trying to achieve the illusive Film Look in Video. It can hardly happen with Camera Menu and/or camera screwdriver alone. Some things never change... It is about Light and Lighting. |
