| Depth of Field is a Depth of perceived sharpness (focus) that extends from in front of Subject (that the Lens is focused on), to a certain distance behind it. The size of this distance can be microscopic or very large where everything is in focus. For any given size of DoF its physical distribution is such that 1/3 of its total depth is in front of the subject and remaining 2/3 of its size, behind the subject... In hypothetical situation where Depth of Field is nine feet, it means that (the lens is focused on a subject), there will be an area (depth) of apparent focus that will extend from 3' in front of the subject and 6' behind the subject. The size of Depth of Field is a function of three elements: Focal Length Aperture Focus Distance |
